Saying Goodbye to Uncle Gene
There won’t be my usual “I was thinking about…” post today or the rest of the week. All my thoughts are with my Uncle Gene as we gather to say goodbye. I’ll forever associate him with an OU cap he always wore so proudly. In fact, I can’t recall ever seeing him without on OU hat of some type—it was just a part of who he was.
Gene was OU’s #1 fan. I now have several of OU hats myself because I always thought Gene looked so cool rocking his. From now on, every time I buy another OU cap, it’ll make me think of my uncle and put a smile on my face. And I know I’ll never hear “Boomer Sooner” again without thinking of him.
We’ll miss Gene more than words can express. But his spirit will live on through all our fond memories and the stories we’ll continue to share. Rest in peace, Uncle Gene. Give ‘em hell up there.
